Mentor Gratitude quote #1, from Mary Morrissey:
Do you know how Chinese bamboo grows?
Chinese bamboo is a fragile plant.
If you plant Chinese bamboo, and take really good care of it, it requires a certain pH in the soil, certain sunlight, certain amounts of water.
And if you take really good care of that plant the first year, it grows maybe 2 inches
And if you take really good care of the plant again the second year, it grows 2 more inches
And if you take really good care of the plant the third year, it grows 2 more inches
And if you take really good care of that plant the fourth year, it grows 2 more inches
And if you take really good care of the plant the fifth year, it grows 80 feet!
Some dreams are like that! There’s a gestation period… Sometimes it looks like not very much is happening; there’s a temptation to give up along the way. It could be that we’re not celebrating the 2 inches of growth that IS happening. You say, “Well, this isn’t where I wanted to be at this point in my life,” and it’s easy to dismiss the progress you’ve made… We may miss the growth or fail to honor the growth that has occurred.
But understand this: What seems to be a negligible amount of growth was still REQUIRED in order for the huge spurt of growth to happen later down the path. Every dream has it’s own growing season. Every dream requires its own amount of tender care, love, guidance, support, length of time…. Our job is to celebrate the journey.
